To assist you in your planning for the Fall, you should know that counseling and course registration will take place August 30, 2002. Classes begin September 3, 2002.
We are looking forward to having you in the Program. Please let us know if we can be of any help to you, or provide you with any further information.

Here is the third installment in Brian's rejection letter list --
February 22, 2002
Dear Mr. Wickman:
Your application for admission to our graduate program in September, 2002 has been considered by our Departmental Committee on Graduate Admissions and I now regret to inform you that your application was not accepted.
Our Department received many more applications than it has openings. We can, therefore, accept only a few of those best qualified. This refusal of your application does not necessarily mean that your academic preparation is unsatisfactory, but that others are thought to have even stronger records.
I trust you will find it possible to make other satisfactory arrangements for continuing your education.
Sincerely, Peggy Carney, Secretary Committee on Graduate Admissions
Wow, somebody even hand signed it this time! But I guess it's only the secretary... Maybe I can get a job writing rejection letters? I've seen so god damned many of them in the last 24 hours.

From: U.C. Berkeley Graduate Admissions <gradadm@eecs.berkeley.edu> Subject: Berkeley Decision
Dear Applicant,
I regret to inform you that we are unable to offer you admission to graduate study at U.C. Berkeley. This year we received more than 3,100 applications for approximately 100 openings.
Because of the limited number of admission slots available, we turned away many qualified applicants. Nonetheless, I would like to wish you the best of luck in pursuing your educational and professional goals.
Sincerely yours,
Alex Aiken Vice-Chair for Graduate Matters

Department of Computer Science Graduate Admissions Stanford University Stanford, CA 94305
February 21, 2002
Dear Brian:
The Ph.D. Admissions Committee has reviewd your application for admission to the Ph.D. program in the Computer Science Department. I am sorry to tell you that the committee did not recommend you for admission. The nmber of applicants far exceeds the number of those whom we can admit, which makes the admissions process a difficult and painstaking one. As a result, many strong candidates must be turned down.
I wish you all the success in the future.
Sincerely yours, Jennifer Widom Chair Ph.D. Admissions Committee
